A reader called the other day and asked: How much of Milwaukee County’s population lives in the city of Milwaukee?
The answer is roughly two-thirds — about 600,000 of the county’s 950,000 inhabitants. The remaining one-third of the population lives in Bayside, Brown Deer, Cudahy, Wauwatosa,Whitefish Bay, et al. West Allis is the second largest municipality in the county with slightly more than 60,000 residents.
Well then, the caller asked, isn’t Scott Walker, who was county executive of Milwaukee County for virtually all of city of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett’s tenure, as responsible for the city’s economic problems as he claims Barrett is? After all, the city’s residents were all his constituents too.
