Cheney as a reverse Rumpelstiltskin?

Hi folks,

Metaphor must be too complicated for politics, but here again is Mr. Cheney spinning truth back into manure covered straw. He's a genius.

Now, if he only had a soul.

From Howard Dean's recent mailing:

Dick Cheney is still linking Democrats with terrorist priorities.

During a press interview in Tokyo, the vice president said, "'I think if we were to do what Speaker Pelosi and Congressman Murtha are suggesting, all we will do is validate the al-Qaida strategy... The al-Qaida strategy is to break the will of the American people ... try to persuade us to throw in the towel and come home, and then they win because we quit."

What is it that Speaker Pelosi and Congressman Murtha are really suggesting? Stopping the escalation. Changing the course. Bringing our brave young men and women home.

That's not breaking the will of the American people -- it's representing it.

What I like best about the neo-Con "strategery" here is the now well worn but still effective technique of framing the debate in such a way that anyone who questions their policies is -- by definition -- a terrorist or terrorist sympathizer.

Didn't we see through this with Hilter and Stalin and Joe McCarthy? -- although I suppose that Ann Coulter is already working on an historical reclamation of Hitler too.... probably defending him for keeping the Soviets at bay all during the 1930's. Am I the only one who still reads Orwell?

Incidentally, this point also illustrates the neo- in neo-Con. No true Conservative would ridicule people who's central concern is to conserve the safety of troops who have been thrown recklessly into harm's way. Most of the real Conservatives I know, in fact, are starting to see past the moral shadow puppets Mr. Bush & Co have used to distract us.

But that is a different rant.

Be good to yourselves out there.
